Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait of A Gentleman, Traditionally Identified As Sir Bulstrode Whitelock (1605-1675), Three-Quarter-Length, In A Yellow Coat, Against A Rocky Outcrop, A Landscape Beyond by Thomas Murray was sold in the Old Masterand British Pictures auction at Christies in London in April 2008. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 10,000.00 – 15,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 11,250.00 (€ 14,342.16) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Other works by Thomas Murray have already achieved higher auction prices, for example, in June 2005 the work Portrait of Anne, Lady Trevor, Three-Quarter-Length, In A Pink Dress With Blue Cloak, Her Right Hand Resting On A King Charles Spaniel, Honeysuckle To Her Left, A Wooded River Landscape With A Castle Beyond was auctioned for GBP 18,600.00 (€ 27,566.37).
