This artwork by Théodore Chassériau achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in London in June 2009. In the 19th Century European Paintings including German, Austrian & Central European Paintings, The Orientalist Sale, Spanish Painting and The Scandinavian Sale auction, the work French Tete De Jeune Algerienne Juive sold for GBP 145,250.00 (€ 170,446.01) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 70,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Théodore Chassériau - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Diane Surprise Par Actéon, which sold at auction in June 2006 for EUR 538,400.00.
