Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work French jeune Fille Mauresque, Assise Dans Un Riche Intérieur (Almée) by Théodore Chassériau was auctioned at Sothebys in London in June 2010, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 120,000 – 180,000, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 115,250 (€ 140,155). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Théodore Chassériau - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Diane Surprise Par Actéon, which sold at auction in June 2006 for EUR 538,400.

In der Auktion 19th Century European Paintings Including German, Austrian and Central European Paintings, The Orientalist Sale, Spanish Painting and the Scandinavian Sale wechselte die Arbeit French jeune Fille Mauresque, Assise Dans Un Riche Intérieur (Almée) für GBP 115.250,00 (€ 140.154,73) den Besitzer – und verfehlte damit das untere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne von GBP 120.000,00 – 180.000,00. Für andere Arbeiten von Théodore Chassériau mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Diane Surprise Par Actéon beobachtet, die im Juni 2006 für EUR 538.400,00 versteigert wurde.
