Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait Of George Dacres Of Cheshunt (1533-1580), Three-Quarter Length, In A Dark Green Doublet, Fur Cloak, Hat, And Sword by Steven van der Meulen was sold in the Master Paintings & Sculpture Day Sale auction at Sothebys in New York in January 2020. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 25,000.00 – 35,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 27,500.00 (€ 24,790.41) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Steven van der Meulen achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait Of Queen Elizabeth I (1533-1603) in November 2007 with an auction result of GBP 2,596,500.00 (€ 3,635,771.75).
