This artwork by Stephen Tennant achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in May 2012. In the Christie's Interiors auction, the work Cassis, Bar de la Jetée; Bar, Tahiti; Music Shop, Rue Tapis (illustrated); and Marseilles, bouche de Rhône sold for GBP 2,750.00 (€ 3,426.38) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 1,500.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Stephen Tennant; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Six framed studies of sailors for Lascar, A Story of the Maritime Boulevard sold at auction in November 2008 with the realized price of GBP 3,500.00 (€ 4,231.76).
