A top price for Stephen Slaughter - as previously expected
The work Portrait of two gentlemen, small-full-length, seated at a table, raising a toast, in a garden; and Portrait of two gentlemen, small-full-length, beside a lectern with one pointing to an open book, with a page inscribed 'Tacitus' by Stephen Slaughter was sold in the THE IRISH SALE auction at Christies in London in May 2001. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 40,000.00 – 60,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 41,125.00 (€ 68,947.00) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Even if this result could not surprise positively, Portrait of two gentlemen, small-full-length, seated at a table, raising a toast, in a garden; and Portrait of two gentlemen, small-full-length, beside a lectern with one pointing to an open book, with a page inscribed 'Tacitus' is the most expensive artwork by Stephen Slaughter that we have observed at auctions so far.
