(Some very occasional unobtrusive spotting.) Original green half morocco, blocked in gilt, gilt edges (spines worn, extremities rubbed). SECOND AND ENLARGED EDITION. [With:] -- Supplement to the 'Birds of New Zealand'. London: 1905. 2 vols, large 4° (378 x 282mm). Engraved frontispiece portrait, 12 hand-coloured lithographic plates. (Marginal light staining and spotting to frontispiece, title to vol. II lightly browned, plates X and XI misbound.) Original red cloth blocked in gilt, top edges gilt (stained and soiled, heavy to upper cover of vol. II and extending into endpapers). Provenance: Margaret A. Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In April 2012 Christies in London held the auction Travel, Science and Natural History, which included the work A History Of The Birds Of New Zealand by Walter Lawry Buller. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 2,375.00 (€ 2,912.87), 19% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Walter Lawry Buller - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A history of the birds of New Zealand, 1888; Supplement, 1905, together 4 volumes, which sold at auction in May last year for GBP 8,190.00 (€ 9,634.76).
Oberer Schätzpreis leicht übertroffen
Im April 2012 führte Christies in London die Auktion Travel, Science and Natural History durch, in der auch die Arbeit A History Of The Birds Of New Zealand von Walter Lawry Buller zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 2.375,00 (€ 2.912,87) und damit 19% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von Walter Lawry Buller mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit A history of the birds of New Zealand, 1888; Supplement, 1905, together 4 volumes beobachtet, die im Mai letzten Jahres für GBP 8.190,00 (€ 9.634,76) versteigert wurde.
