(Slight spotting to first few leaves of vols I and II). Publisher's green half morocco, gilt pictorial boards, gilt edges (extremities slightly rubbed). [With:] Supplement to the 'Birds of New Zealand'. London: 1905. 2 vols, large 4° (381 x 282mm). Engraved frontispiece portrait in vol. I, 12 coloured plates and numerous text illustrations. (Frontispiece spotted, plates X and XI misbound). Contemporary dark green half morocco, spine gilt in compartments (spines faded to brown, endpapers browned).

However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Walter Lawry Buller - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A history of the birds of New Zealand, 1888; Supplement, 1905, together 4 volumes, which sold at auction in May last year for GBP 8,190.00 (€ 9,634.76).
