The work Portrait of Queen Victoria (1819-1901), seated full-length, in ceremonial robes, the crown and sceptre by her side by George Hayter was sold in the British, Victorian and Scottish Pictures auction at Christies in London in March 2003. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 12,925.00 (€ 18,723.46), 62% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by George Hayter - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait of Charlotte, Countess de la Bourdonnaye (1795-1875), Full-Length, In A Green Dress, Seated On A Day Bed On A Terrace, A Dog On Her Lap, Before A Draped Curtain, With An Extensive Landscape Beyond, which sold at auction in June 2005 for GBP 46,800.00 (€ 69,360.56).

Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 12.925,00 (€ 18.723,46) und damit 62% über dem oberen Schätzpreis.
