The »bidding war« ended at GBP 27,500.00 (€ 30,528.02), 38% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by George Hayter - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait of Charlotte, Countess de la Bourdonnaye (1795-1875), Full-Length, In A Green Dress, Seated On A Day Bed On A Terrace, A Dog On Her Lap, Before A Draped Curtain, With An Extensive Landscape Beyond, which sold at auction in June 2005 for GBP 46,800.00 (€ 69,360.56).
