Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Justitia, for a stained-glass window at St Paul's Cathedral, Calcutta by Edward Burne-Jones was auctioned at Christies in New York in May this year. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 60,000.00 – 100,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 69,300.00 (€ 80,631.01) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Edward Burne-Jones achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Love among the Ruins in July 2013 with an auction result of GBP 14,845,875.00 (€ 16,963,999.76).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Die Arbeit Justitia, for a stained-glass window at St Paul's Cathedral, Calcutta von Edward Burne-Jones kam im Mai diesen Jahres bei Christies in New York zur Auktion. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 60.000,00 – 100.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von GBP 69.300,00 (€ 80.631,01) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Edward Burne-Jones erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Love among the Ruins im Juli 2013 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 14.845.875,00 (€ 16.963.999,76).
