Auction result well in line with expectations
In May 2016 Christies in Amsterdam held the auction Old Masters & 19th Century Art - (including Dutch Impressionism), which included the work Cavalry engagements between Ottomans and Christians in hilly landscapes by Simon Johannes van Douw. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of EUR 8,000.00 – 12,000.00, the actual price achieved of EUR 8,750.00 could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by Simon Johannes van Douw have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work An Italianate landscape with travellers gathering by a fountain amongst classical ruins in November 2010 with an auction result of EUR 37,000.00.
