Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Girl with Grapes unframed. by Sigmund Joseph Menkes was auctioned at Bonhams in New York in November this year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 12,000.00 – 18,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 8,320.00 (€ 7,627.43). Admittedly, works by Sigmund Joseph Menkes have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Nu, 1924 in October 2011 with an auction result of EUR 71,173.00.
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Girl with Grapes unframed. von Sigmund Joseph Menkes im November diesen Jahres bei Bonhams in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 12.000,00 – 18.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 8.320,00 (€ 7.627,43) den Besitzer. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Sigmund Joseph Menkes auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Nu, 1924 im Oktober 2011 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von EUR 71.173,00.
