In May last year Bonhams in Los Angeles held the auction European Fine Living, which included the work A still life of flowers in a vase by Sigmund Joseph Menkes. The »bidding war« ended at USD 8,287.50 (€ 7,722.95), 38% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Sigmund Joseph Menkes have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Nu, 1924 in October 2011 with an auction result of EUR 71,173.00.
Oberer Schätzpreis um 38 % übertroffen
Im Mai letzten Jahres führte Bonhams in Los Angeles die Auktion European Fine Living durch, in der auch die Arbeit A still life of flowers in a vase von Sigmund Joseph Menkes zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 8.287,50 (€ 7.722,95) und damit 38% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Sigmund Joseph Menkes auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Nu, 1924 im Oktober 2011 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von EUR 71.173,00.
