A top price for Sherman Limner - as previously expected
In January 2006 Christies in New York held the auction Important American Furniture, Folk Art, Silver and Prints including The Garbisch Collection from the Sky Club, which included the work Portrait of John Sherman (1750-1802) by Sherman Limner. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 150,000.00 – 250,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 168,000.00 (€ 138,180.62) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Even if this result could not surprise positively, Portrait of John Sherman (1750-1802) is the most expensive artwork by Sherman Limner that we have observed at auctions so far.
