Auction result well in line with expectations
In October 2007 Christies in London held the auction Important Maritime Art, which included the work The famous schooner yacht America in the East River, New York by Shane Michael Couch. The price achieved of GBP 5,000.00 (€ 7,180.33) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 4,000.00 – 6,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Shane Michael Couch - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Citizens cup race, Newport R.I., August 28th 1871 with Sappho, Columbia and Dauntless, which sold at auction in February 2006 for USD 24,000.00 (€ 20,125.79).
