Auction result misses estimated price range
In March last year a collector was able to acquire the work Cat by Sakai Hoitsu for USD 19,000.00 (€ 17,127.92). This price was achieved in the auction Japanese and Korean Art Including the Collection of David and Nayda Utterberg at Christies in New York and was even below the estimate range of USD 20,000.00 – 30,000.00 set by the auction house. Admittedly, works by Sakai Hoitsu have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Chofu Jewel River in March 2004 with an auction result of USD 113,525.00 (€ 92,356.82).
