Despite a disappointment, a good price for Rumpius
When the work Conchological Studies: Six Plates by Rumpius was auctioned at Christies in New York in March 2004, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 3,000.00 – 4,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 2,270.50 (€ 1,847.14). Despite this disappointing result, Conchological Studies: Six Plates is the most expensive artwork by Rumpius that we have observed at auction so far.
