Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Landing of Henry Hudson, 1609, at Verplanck Point, New York by Robert Walter Weir was auctioned at Christies in New York in May 2018, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 400,000.00 – 600,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 200,000.00 (€ 171,379.61). Admittedly, works by Robert Walter Weir have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Greenwich Boat Club in December 2008 with an auction result of USD 1,202,500.00 (€ 863,927.01).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Landing of Henry Hudson, 1609, at Verplanck Point, New York von Robert Walter Weir im Mai 2018 bei Christies in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 400.000,00 – 600.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 200.000,00 (€ 171.379,61) den Besitzer. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Robert Walter Weir auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Greenwich Boat Club im Dezember 2008 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 1.202.500,00 (€ 863.927,01).
