Auction result well in line with expectations
The work William, 6th Baron Craven (1738-1791), facing right in blue coat with silver buttons, white waistcoat and frilled cravat, powdered hair en queue by Robert Bowyer was auctioned at Christies in London in May 2002. The price achieved of GBP 1,135.25 (€ 1,777.82) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 1,000.00 – 1,500.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Robert Bowyer - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work An Officer, In Scarlet Coat With Yellow Facings, Silver Epaulette, Frilled White Cravat And Black Stock, Powdered Hair En Queue, which sold at auction in June 2007 for GBP 2,400.00 (€ 3,561.48).
