The work Le Principe Du Plaisir by René Magritte was sold in the Impressionist & Modern Art Evening Sale auction at Sothebys in New York in November 2018. The »bidding war« ended at USD 26,830,500.00 (€ 23,695,575.38), 34% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by René Magritte - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work L’empire des lumières, which sold at auction in March last year for GBP 59,422,000.00 (€ 70,451,468.85).

Die Arbeit Le Principe Du Plaisir von René Magritte wurde im November 2018 in der Auktion Impressionist & Modern Art Evening Sale bei Sothebys in New York versteigert. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 26.830.500,00 (€ 23.695.575,38) und damit 34% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von René Magritte mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit L’empire des lumières beobachtet, die im März letzten Jahres für GBP 59.422.000,00 (€ 70.451.468,85) versteigert wurde.
