Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Sedia E Falce Signed And Dated 1947, Oil On Paper Laid On Canvas by Renato Birolli was auctioned at Sothebys in Milan in May 2013, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of EUR 10,000.00 – 15,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for EUR 6,875.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Renato Birolli achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Incendio alle Cinque Terre in October 2005 with an auction result of GBP 131,200.00 (€ 193,480.35).
