Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Peg Woffington's visit to Triplet 'If it was art, glory be to such art, so worthily applied, and honour to such creatures as this, that come like sunshine into poor men's houses, and tune drooping hearts to daylight and hope!' Charles Reade, Peg Woff by Rebecca Solomon was auctioned at Christies in London in June 2000. The price achieved of GBP 17,625.00 (€ 27,937.79) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 15,000.00 – 20,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Rebecca Solomon achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A Young Teacher in March last year with an auction result of GBP 302,400.00 (€ 358,529.23).
