Artwork auctioned at four times the upper estimate price
When the work Distant Kettering; January Sunshine; February Landscape; Bright Morning by Ralph Hartley was auctioned at Sothebys in London in November 2008, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - GBP 1,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than four times as high at GBP 4,000.00 (€ 4,836.30). Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Ralph Hartley; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Kettering; Second Lodge Fields; Towards Thorpe; Warkton, Northamptonshire sold at auction in November 2008 with the realized price of GBP 5,625.00 (€ 6,801.05).
