Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Untitled (Swami Vishvamitra In Meditation) by Raja Ravi Varma was sold in the Modern & Contemporary South Asian Art auction at Sothebys in New York in March 2020. It changed hands for a price of USD 860,000.00 (€ 779,762.44) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of USD 700,000.00 – 900,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Raja Ravi Varma - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Untitled (Damayanti), which sold at auction in March 2017 for USD 1,692,500.00 (€ 1,582,071.42).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Die Arbeit Untitled (Swami Vishvamitra In Meditation) von Raja Ravi Varma wurde im März 2020 in der Auktion Modern & Contemporary South Asian Art bei Sothebys in New York versteigert. Dabei wechselte sie für einen Preis von USD 860.000,00 (€ 779.762,44) den Besitzer und erzielte damit ein Ergebnis im oberen Bereich der Schätzpreisspanne von USD 700.000,00 – 900.000,00. Für andere Arbeiten von Raja Ravi Varma mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Untitled (Damayanti) beobachtet, die im März 2017 für USD 1.692.500,00 (€ 1.582.071,42) versteigert wurde.
