Despite a disappointment, a good price for Quentin Massys
In January 2015 a collector was able to acquire the work The Madonna Of The Cherries by Quentin Massys for USD 1,445,000.00 (€ 1,279,893.71). This price was achieved in the auction Master Paintings: Part I at Sothebys in New York and was even below the estimate range of USD 1,500,000.00 – 2,000,000.00 set by the auction house. Despite this disappointing result, The Madonna Of The Cherries is the most expensive artwork by Quentin Massys that we have observed at auction so far.
