Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Saints Bernardino, Blaise, Peter, Paul, Anthony Abbot And Catherine Of Siena, With The Coats-Of-Arms Of The Piccolomini And Pannocchieschi D’Elci Families by Pietro di Francesco degli Orioli was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in January 2017, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 20,000.00 – 30,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 1 Admittedly, works by Pietro di Francesco degli Orioli have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Madonna And Child With Saints Jerome And Bernardino Of Siena in January 2015 with an auction result of USD 149,000.00 (€ 131,975.20).
