A top price for Pieter Bruegel the Elder - as previously expected
The work The Drunkard pushed into the Pigsty by Pieter Bruegel the Elder was sold in the Important Old Master Pictures auction at Christies in London in July 2002. The price achieved of GBP 3,306,650.00 (€ 5,274,235.02) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 3,000,000.00 – 4,000,000.00. Even if this result could not surprise positively, The Drunkard pushed into the Pigsty is the most expensive artwork by Pieter Bruegel the Elder that we have observed at auctions so far.
