This artwork by Philip Mitchell achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in May 2006. In the Maritime Pictures auction, the work Plymouth Sound From Mt. Edgcumbe, A Summer'S Afternoon sold for GBP 1,800.00 (€ 2,627.41) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 900.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Philip Mitchell; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot View of Devonport And Stonebridge From Mount Edgecombe Park, Cornwall sold at auction in November 2006 with the realized price of GBP 3,360.00 (€ 4,989.71).
