Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Belgian port Of Ostend by Paul Jean Clays was sold in the Fine Old Master & 19th Century European Art auction at Sothebys in New York in February 2018. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 2,000.00 – 3,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 2,250.00 (€ 1,842.60) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Paul Jean Clays achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Celebration of the Freedom of the Port of Antwerp, 1863 in June 2016 with an auction result of USD 40,000.00 (€ 36,258.16).
