Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The Triumph of the Word of God: A chariot with Christ on the Cross, the Massacre of the Innocents, Faith and the Sacrifice of Isaac drawn by horses surrounded with allegories of the Church, Human Passion and Divine Revelation by Otto van Veen was sold in the Old Master and 19th Century Drawings auction at Christies in London in July 2004. The price achieved of GBP 14,340.00 (€ 21,670.90) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 12,000.00 – 18,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Otto van Veen achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Capture of Rome in July 2018 with an auction result of GBP 728,750.00 (€ 817,088.99).
