In August 2005 Christies in New York held the auction THE HOUSE SALE, which included the work An old scholar reading by candlelight; also a companion painting by Otto Kirchner. The »bidding war« ended at USD 1,920.00 (€ 1,557.18), 60% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Otto Kirchner have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work A good vintage; and Reading the news in January 2001 with an auction result of GBP 4,935.00 (€ 7,747.65).

Im August 2005 führte Christies in New York die Auktion THE HOUSE SALE durch, in der auch die Arbeit An old scholar reading by candlelight; also a companion painting von Otto Kirchner zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 1.920,00 (€ 1.557,18) und damit 60% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Otto Kirchner auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit A good vintage; and Reading the news im Januar 2001 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 4.935,00 (€ 7.747,65).
