A top price for Orazio Gentileschi - as previously expected
The work Danaë by Orazio Gentileschi was sold in the Master Paintings Evening Sale auction at Sothebys in New York in January 2016. The price achieved of USD 30,490,000.00 (€ 28,148,079.76) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 25,000,000.00 – 35,000,000.00. Even if this result could not surprise positively, Danaë is the most expensive artwork by Orazio Gentileschi that we have observed at auctions so far.
