This painting has an alternative titled inscribed in Cyrillic on the stretcher: 'The Ungathered Peaches'. Painted in the late 1960s, the present work is one of the earliest pieces by Nesterova ever to appear at auction. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Nesterova was one of the few female Russian artists to gain an international audience and has been the subject of exhibitions in New York, Chicago, Montreal, Paris, Milan, Berlin and Madrid

Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The Miller And His Son by Natalia Nesterova was sold in the Escape Artists: The Non-Conformists Online auction at Sothebys in New York in October 2018. The price achieved of USD 16,250.00 (€ 14,339.92) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 12,000.00 – 18,000.00. Admittedly, works by Natalia Nesterova have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Dancing People in October 2007 with an auction result of GBP 78,000.00 (€ 112,013.13).

Die Arbeit The Miller And His Son von Natalia Nesterova wurde im Oktober 2018 in der Auktion Escape Artists: The Non-Conformists Online bei Sothebys in New York versteigert. Der dabei erzielte Preis von USD 16.250,00 (€ 14.339,92) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit USD 12.000,00 – 18.000,00 angegeben worden. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Natalia Nesterova auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Dancing People im Oktober 2007 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 78.000,00 (€ 112.013,13).
