Auction result misses estimated price range

This work of art by Nakabayashi Chikuto could be acquired at Christies in New York in October 2001 for an unexpectedly low price. In the THE FALK COLLECTION II: CHINESE AND JAPANESE WORKS OF ART auction, the work Kogetsu tekishu (Playing the flute in moonlight) changed hands for USD 1,880.00 (€ 2,090.51) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 2,500.00 – 3,500.00. Other works by Nakabayashi Chikuto have also sold for higher prices; the highest price we have seen at auction so far was achieved in March 2005 by the work Waterfall at USD 5,040.00 (€ 3,886.19).
