This artwork by Maurice Quentin de la Tour achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in July 2005. In the Old Master and 19th Century Drawings including Andrea del auction, the work Self-Portrait, Bust-Length, Pointing To The Right, Seen Through A Window, Called L'Autoportrait À L'Index Or L'Autoportrait À L'Oeil de Boeuf sold for GBP 657,600.00 (€ 953,842.59) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 300,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Maurice Quentin de la Tour; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Portrait Of Jacques Dumont Le Romain Playing The Guitar sold at auction in January 2009 with the realized price of USD 1,258,500.00 (€ 982,895.97).
