In July 2014 Christies in London held the auction Old Master & British Paintings Evening Sale, which included the work Christ before Pilate by Matthias Stomer. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 842,500.00 (€ 1,062,657.39), 40% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Matthias Stomer - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Christ Disputing With The Doctors, which sold at auction in January 2016 for USD 2,650,000.00 (€ 2,446,454.95).

Oberer Schätzpreis um 40 % übertroffen

Im Juli 2014 führte Christies in London die Auktion Old Master & British Paintings Evening Sale durch, in der auch die Arbeit Christ before Pilate von Matthias Stomer zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 842.500,00 (€ 1.062.657,39) und damit 40% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von Matthias Stomer mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Christ Disputing With The Doctors beobachtet, die im Januar 2016 für USD 2.650.000,00 (€ 2.446.454,95) versteigert wurde.
