Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Kakei bakufu; shochiku; ume zu (Waterfall in the valley in summer; pine and bamboo; plum) by Maruyama Banka was sold in the Japanese and Korean Art auction at Christies in New York in September 2003. The price achieved of USD 2,629.00 (€ 1,593.33) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 2,000.00 – 3,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Maruyama Banka - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Blossoming Wisteria by Steps to a Shrine Gate, which sold at auction in March last year for USD 7,012.50 (€ 6,321.55).
