This artwork by Martinus de la Court achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in September 2005. In the Old Master Pictures auction, the work A wooded landscape with satyrs and a nymph dancing sold for GBP 1,560.00 (€ 2,289.41) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 800.00. Admittedly, works by Martinus de la Court have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait of a nobleman, of the Asch van Wijck family, three-quarter-length, in a golden 'Japansche rock' and wig, seated by a balustrade, a mansion in the distance; and Portrait of an elegant lady, of the Asch van Wijck family, three-quarter-length, in April 2007 with an auction result of EUR 10,800.00.
