In January this year Christies in New York held the auction Old Master and 19th Century Prints, which included the work The Flagellation, from: The Passion by Martin Schongauer. The »bidding war« ended at USD 81,900.00 (€ 75,428.26), 37% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Martin Schongauer have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The Death of the Virgin in January 2019 with an auction result of USD 492,500.00 (€ 429,980.79).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 37 % übertroffen
Im Januar diesen Jahres führte Christies in New York die Auktion Old Master and 19th Century Prints durch, in der auch die Arbeit The Flagellation, from: The Passion von Martin Schongauer zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 81.900,00 (€ 75.428,26) und damit 37% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Martin Schongauer auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit The Death of the Virgin im Januar 2019 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 492.500,00 (€ 429.980,79).
