Auction result misses estimated price range
In July last year a collector was able to acquire the work The Death of the Virgin by Martin Schongauer for GBP 12,000.00 (€ 14,330.13). This price was achieved in the auction Old Master and British Works on Paper: Drawings, Watercolours and Prints 1500-1900 at Christies in London and was even below the estimate range of GBP 20,000.00 – 30,000.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Martin Schongauer achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Death of the Virgin in January 2019 with an auction result of USD 492,500.00 (€ 429,980.79).
