Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work A family portrait of a an elderly woman with her son and grandson, three-quarter length, seated, on a palatial balcony by Louis Vallée was auctioned at Christies in London in November 2010, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 20,000.00 – 30,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 18,750.00 (€ 22,406.22). Admittedly, works by Louis Vallée have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait of a gentleman before a draped table, three-quarter-length, a landscape beyond in January this year with an auction result of USD 126,000.00 (€ 116,043.47).
