Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A piper and bagpiper, with subsidiary studies of their heads and hands (recto); Two figures outside a house and a woman carrying a basket on her head (verso) by Louis-Léopold Robert was sold in the Old Master & British Drawings & Watercolours auction at Christies in London in July 2014. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 4,000.00 – 6,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 4,375.00 (€ 5,518.25) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by Louis-Léopold Robert have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Ein Hirte und seine schlafende Tochter / Un vieux pâtre et sa fille endormie. 1820. in April last year with an auction result of CHF 29,580.00 (€ 28,869.77).
