In October 2006 Christies in New York held the auction Orientalist Art, 19th Century European Art, which included the work The Lesson by Léon Emile Caille. The price achieved of USD 12,000.00 (€ 9,394.82) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 10,000.00 – 15,000.00. Even if this result could not surprise positively, The Lesson is the most expensive artwork by Léon Emile Caille that we have observed at auctions so far.
