etching, circa 1545-50, on laid paper, watermark Small Crest (similar to Briquet 916, dated Nuremberg 1541), a fine, early impression of this very rare etching, printing with a light plate tone, many vertical wiping scratches and inky plate edges, offsetting from another print verso, two unobtrusive horizontal printer's creases, with circa 10 mm. margins on all sides, some pale scattered foxing, generally in very good condition

Auction result well in line with expectations

The price achieved of GBP 4,750.00 (€ 5,345.43) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 4,000.00 – 6,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Léon Davent - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Jupiter's Eagle bringing the Water of the Styx to Psyche, which sold at auction in January 2019 for USD 22,500.00 (€ 19,643.79).

Der dabei erzielte Preis von GBP 4.750,00 (€ 5.345,43) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit GBP 4.000,00 – 6.000,00 angegeben worden. Für andere Arbeiten von Léon Davent mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Jupiter's Eagle bringing the Water of the Styx to Psyche beobachtet, die im Januar 2019 für USD 22.500,00 (€ 19.643,79) versteigert wurde.
