Description
etching with engraving, circa 1540-45, on laid paper, watermark Tilted Bunch of Grapes (see Jenkins, p. 116, fig. 4.10, similar to Briquet 13065, circa 1485-1530), a good impression of this very rare print, printing with a light plate tone and many wiping marks, beginning to show some wear in places, slightly unevenly trimmed, with narrow to thread margins or trimmed to the platemark, the sheet laid down, some repaired tears, the corners repaired, a few pale moisture stains

The work Hercules dressed as a Woman by Léon Davent was sold in the Old Master Prints auction at Christies in New York in January 2019. The »bidding war« ended at USD 4,000.00 (€ 3,492.23), 33% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Léon Davent have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Jupiter's Eagle bringing the Water of the Styx to Psyche in January 2019 with an auction result of USD 22,500.00 (€ 19,643.79).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 33 % übertroffen
Die Arbeit Hercules dressed as a Woman von Léon Davent wurde im Januar 2019 in der Auktion Old Master Prints bei Christies in New York versteigert. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 4.000,00 (€ 3.492,23) und damit 33% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Léon Davent auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Jupiter's Eagle bringing the Water of the Styx to Psyche im Januar 2019 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 22.500,00 (€ 19.643,79).
