Artwork auctioned at seven times the upper estimate price
When the work A Leaf is an Arrow by Lauren Quin was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in May last year, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - USD 70,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than seven times as high at USD 529,200.00 (€ 493,150.68). Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Lauren Quin; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Airsickness sold at auction in March last year with the realized price of GBP 441,000.00 (€ 522,855.13).

Als die Arbeit A Leaf is an Arrow von Lauren Quin im Mai letzten Jahres bei Sothebys in New York versteigert wurde, übertraf das Ergebnis die Erwartungen um ein Vielfaches. Der obere Schätzpreis war mit – rückwirkend betrachtet recht bescheidenen – USD 70.000,00 angesetzt, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis hingegen war mit USD 529.200,00 (€ 493.150,68) mehr als siebenmal so hoch. Trotz des guten Ergebnisses ist dies nicht der höchste Zuschlag für ein Kunstwerk von Lauren Quin; den erzielte unter den von uns beobachteten Auktionen die Arbeit Airsickness im März letzten Jahres mit dem Hammerpreis von GBP 441.000,00 (€ 522.855,13).
