It achieved a price of USD 50,400.00 (€ 45,434.06), exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 68%. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Katsushika Hokusai achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Kanagawa oki nami ura (Under the well of the Great Wave off Kanagawa) [“Great Wave”|AID1099960] in March this year with an auction result of USD 2,760,000.00 (€ 2,538,631.35).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 68 % übertroffen
Die Arbeit Goto kujira tsuki (Whaling off the Goto Islands) von Katsushika Hokusai kam im März letzten Jahres bei Christies in New York zur Auktion. Sie erzielte dabei einen Preis von USD 50.400,00 (€ 45.434,06) und übertraf damit das obere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne um 68%. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Katsushika Hokusai erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Kanagawa oki nami ura (Under the well of the Great Wave off Kanagawa) [“Great Wave”|AID1099960] im März diesen Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 2.760.000,00 (€ 2.538.631,35).
