In November 2002 Christies in Melbourne held the auction AUSTRALIAN, INTERNATIONAL AND CONTEMPORARY PAINTINGS, which included the work The Clowns Picnic by Justin Maurice O'Brien. The price achieved of AUD 47,000.00 (€ 26,504.93) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as AUD 40,000.00 – 60,000.00.
