Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Amparo by Julio Romero de Torres was sold in the European Paintings including The Orientalist Sale, Symbolism and the Poetic Vision and Spanish Painting auction at Sothebys in London in November 2008. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 250,000.00 – 350,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 253,250.00 (€ 306,198.28) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Julio Romero de Torres - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Fuensanta, which sold at auction in November 2007 for GBP 826,900.00 (€ 1,157,873.93).
